How do you recognize a Rolex from a distance?

I have some friends that can spot a Rolex from a few feet away and when I have a look I can't really tell why it's a Rolex and not some other expensive watch brand. Does it have special traits? Thanks.

1. check the second hand, a knock off's second hand will "tick", while real rolex second hands "sweep" without ticking.
2. It is highly probably that they saw that particular design before thus they know it when they see it from far.
