3. Sir Peter Blake is / was the only sailor to have raced in the first five Whitbread Round the World races. He competed in his first Round the World race in 1974. In the 1981–82 race, Blake put his own campaign together and skippered Ceramco New Zealand. He was back again in 1985 with one of the race favourites Lion New Zealand. In 1989–90, Blake skippered Steinlager to an unprecedented clean sweep. He and his team walked off with line, handicap and overall honours on each of the race's six legs.
